Transparency does assist in ensuring that the RF are paying their fair share of taxes given the taxpayer is funding the Sovereign Grant etc.
If it is not mandatory to disclose the amount of tax paid then it is up to the individual, entity etc. In Australia the privacy laws surrounding tax information are very strict to protect taxpayers. The ATO (equivalent to HMRC in the UK and IRS in US) cannot disclose under the law information regarding specific individual/non-profit/entity's tax payable in a financial year. Many times has the ATO been questioned by the Government to disclose the tax paid by corporates and multi-nationals. I suspect HMRC have similar legislative requirements regarding disclosures. It would be up to the entity or individual to disclose how much tax they paid in any year.
Many will disagree with the above but it is the law and it is to protect individuals and entities doing the right thing and protect their privacy.
It would have been good for PoW to disclose how much tax was paid with the Duchy to at least give the public some assurance that he is being transparent. However, I have a suspicion that the reason it was not declared was for a number of reasons. This is not a complete list (and I am not saying he should/shouldn't have disclosed the tax payable but I can understand why if he is not obligated under law.) For example: 1. If things between his wife are not great and potential divorce - ensuring that she has limited knowledge on how much the Duchy received in respect of any Divorce settlement. 2. Given that his in-laws had financial issues and did not pay bills if he disclosed the income amount you can just imagine the cry to at least pay creditors who had nothing to do with PoW. 3. Keeping his financials a secret from his in-laws. 4. Keeping financials secret from the Montecito duo - PH would use that as another excuse to go WHAH WHAH etc....MM would be trying to wriggle back in to get a piece of the pie and she is already extremely jealous of the Wales and potentially can't understand why PoW didn't follow her like a puppy (like his brother does). 5. Maybe the King controls much of the Duchy even though it is technically PoW. The King doesn't trust his eldest son yet with the money. 6.... open the forum to other suggestions.

Of course we have an idea of what the "shocking revelations" could be. Kate would have to withdraw if finally openly exposed for the frauds and traitors she, her mother Carole and Prince William truly are. Faking the Succession isn't good. Faking having cancer isn't good. Lies, bullying, trickery, scamming the public, etc, isn't good either. Getting warmer, Murad, Getting warmer.
