The jewels and the dresses at this costume ball are amazing!!! I wonder what happened to those magnificent jewels? And, it is horrifying that the Revolution came only two years later.

Just gorgeous and beautifully brought back to life. Some of that headgear is beyond gorgeous! I wonder if they were very heavy? Even to wear if a costume must have been hard.

^ Sure, the head dresses are heavy. I would have to be drunk to parade around with any of that on my head.

I think Alix was the worst choice. She hadn't been much of anywhere or done much of anything and she was refusing to accept that she had duties to fulfill, and she refused to do that too. The Romanovs were a sociable family and were certainly ready to give her chance, but she blew up any chance at a good relationship with them. She was Tsarina, Empress, and she did not provide her husband with a social outlet. Like a lot of modern 'feminist' first ladies, she did not see the value in looking after the mental and emotional health of one of the most powerful men in the world. She failed to do the simple act of reaching out and doing her DUTY and that was to maintain an inviolable bond with the Russian people and the Russian nation and make her husband was loved and active socially.
