I think his real issues come from the reality that he isn't going to go any where by taking a half-a$$ approach. His party cake-mix pack was a good idea, but he wanted to market it to the upper crust and hyped it as gourmet, despite the fact that it clearly isn't and he determinedly ends up over-hyping his stuff. After the cake mix project flopped, her tried "Boomf," but that was a joke and he barely worked and he really was more interested in partying with low rent celebs instead of training/education/perfecting his cooking. He refuses to get an education and he refuses to just stop hyping himself. He is an ordinary man who yearns to be so amazing that he doesn't have to get education/training and oddly it doesn't occur to him that even the 'best' get education and training to hone their talent and move up.
His posturing as a male socialite is a joke and it is clear that he is living in a fantasy land. His depression is coming all the time since he keeps getting let down by reality. In reality he is not going to go anywhere in life until he accepts that he has to train/educate and practice like everyone else. He seeks the kind of grandeur that takes work to attain and he does not want to work. He is like a wannabe actor who refuses to get education and training in his passion and it is clear that he has reached a point where he is a national laughingstock. His idea of customized gourmet marshmallows is a fun idea and a good one, but he refuses to make anything that is non-processed. He refuses to hook up with suppliers of cream and good genuine organic ingredients and he refuses to WORK at marketing his niche product to the right places. His refusal to work is hitting him the hardest.
