Title: Sentebale and Other Charity Work Post by: Nighthawk on March 21, 2011, 12:14:19 am ________________________________________ Prince Harry's charity for African orphans spends almost £500,000 per year on staff costs www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/prince-harry/8392809/Prince-Harrys-charity-for-African-orphans-spends-almost-500000-per-year-on-staff-costs.htmlQuote Prince Harry, who pulled out of a fund-raising polo match in Dubai because of the turmoil in the Middle East, has discovered how costly running a charity can be. Mandrake can disclose that Sentebale, the Prince's organisation for African orphans, spent almost £500,000 on staff last year, an increase of £154,000 on 2009. One employee, said to be Kedge Martin, the chief executive, was paid as much as £100,000. Sentebale, which Harry co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006, employs "16.3" staff, four of whom are based in London, with the others in Africa, on total salaries of £485,000. According to its latest accounts, it spent £1.1 million on charitable activities, up from £970,000 the previous year. The total raised by Sentebale, which means "forget me not" in Sesotho, was £1.8 million. In 2009, Harry took part in a polo match in New York, attended by Madonna, which made a high "six-figure sum". jesus must be nice to be paid 100,000 for charity work  how the hell is the even helping out children  ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry's charity Sentebale spends almost £500,000 per year on staff Post by: Yooper on March 21, 2011, 12:54:51 am ________________________________________ Since this is my profession, this amount is not unreasonable, at that level. This is completely skewed journalism. Foundation Execs make that salary at the low end. More experienced and higher-end foundation administrators or executives make much more than that. Overall, this particular foundation adds up to approx $31K on average. That's standard, if not sub-standard. That's not out of bounds by any means. Foundations Execs are hired because of their connections and experience and, from the looks of it, this is a charity that is getting stronger during a time when that's pretty rare. If you like, tomorrow I can look them up in the Foundation Directory. All of their finances are public property. The information culled by this article is only one side of a many-sided issue. The execs have to bring in, by contract, a certain amount or they are out, so this person is doing their job. I know it seems outrageous, but it really isn't. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry's charity Sentebale spends almost £500,000 per year on staff Post by: Wombat on March 21, 2011, 05:21:40 am ________________________________________ They need to hire professionals as charities are very complicated to run and fund. If Sentebale didn't pay these sorts of salaries then Harry would be getting dragged through the mud for his charity being bogus and ineffective. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry's charity Sentebale spends almost £500,000 per year on staff Post by: Yooper on March 21, 2011, 09:41:49 pm ________________________________________ Absolutely. From what I can see, this foundation has very little overrun and is handled effectively and dispenses above-average outlay. You undeniably have to hire the right professionals to drag in the dough-re-mi. Good job, Harry! ________________________________________ Title: Event on July 4th, Prince harry, Patron will attend and introduce Anglo-Zulu War Post by: karla64 on June 21, 2011, 02:41:42 pm ________________________________________ www.princeofwales.gov.uk/diary/monday_4th_july_2011_1159212617.html Quote Monday 4th July 2011 Prince Harry, Patron, will attend and introduce an Anglo-Zulu war lecture by Robert Caskie, St James’s Palace State Apartments, London. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Event on July 4th, Prince harry, Patron will attend and introduce Anglo-Zulu War Post by: Alexandrine on June 23, 2011, 01:32:15 pm ________________________________________ :thankyou: ________________________________________ Title: Re: Event on July 4th, Prince harry, Patron will attend and introduce Anglo-Zulu War Post by: mousiekins on June 23, 2011, 02:21:23 pm ________________________________________ which will be out shadowed by the D/D's overseas tour :blabla: ________________________________________ Title: British Polo Day Charity Cup Post by: danifaul on July 02, 2011, 11:35:19 pm ________________________________________ Prince Harry and Prince Rashid of Jordan in action during the British Polo Day Charity Cup sponsored by Intercontinental Park Lane and Richard Mille at Andrew Lloyd Webber's estate on July 02, 2011 in Watership Down, England. www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/117969096/Getty-Images-Entertainment________________________________________ Title: Re: British Polo Day Charity Cup Post by: YooperModerator on July 02, 2011, 11:53:45 pm ________________________________________ Some more getty pic's, the first 18 are from Harry. www.gettyimages.co.uk/Search/Search.aspx?contractUrl=2&assetType=image&family=Editorial&p=polo+day+charity+cup+2011________________________________________ Title: Re: British Polo Day Charity Cup Post by: danifaul on July 03, 2011, 09:06:49 pm ________________________________________ Prince Harry: British Polo Day Charity Cup Prince Harry plays in the British Polo Day Charity cup held at the estate of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber on Saturday (July 2) in Midhurst, England. justjared.buzznet.com/2011/07/03/prince-harry-british-polo-day-charity-cup/________________________________________

Title: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: Ella on August 05, 2011, 01:56:34 am ________________________________________ So really really quick: Part one of the BBC documentary on the Walking With the Wounded trek to the North Pole w/ Prince Harry will be broadcast sometime between the 20th and 26th. Program Information: www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2011/wk34/unplaced.shtml#unplaced_harryExact time and date haven't been released, but it's showing up on the BBC highlights for that week: www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/2011/wk34/Part two will probably be broadcast the following week! Personally, I don't like the title. I can't quite explain why, but it's like...they're not his warriors and it's not entirely about him and his involvement, so maybe a more generic title would have been better? The original title was "North Pole Warriors". Cheesy, but I liked it more. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: mousiekins on August 05, 2011, 08:30:20 am ________________________________________ I agree on the title but I see why they are making it about him as he is the draw. ________________________________________ Title: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: karla64 on August 08, 2011, 02:45:22 pm ________________________________________ www.telegraph.co.uk/news/8685894/Prince-Harry-warned-not-to-commit-himself-to-attending-diamond-jubilee-celebrations.html________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: YooperModerator on August 08, 2011, 08:45:05 pm ________________________________________ Quote all the hours of flying time that the prince is racking up may help him to achieve what one of his friends has claimed to be his secret ambition – to become an honorary member of Nasa’s space training programme. Well that's the first time I heard about that ambition! He want's to get into the spaceprogram huh? (Wonder when that dream popped up! My guess ...right after 29/04/11! :- "Oh shoot, they really pulled this off! Let's get as far away from her as possible!" ) Hey maybe he should talk to Richard Branson! Isn't he dreaming about space tourism? Who knows our Harry might find a job there! Jokes aside, I hope he finishes his training in US and is ready when his country calls upon him to do his duty! It would be a pity if he would have to go during the summer celebrations but that's what he signed for so.. Good luck Harry :goodluck: (I'll pray they wont take ya chopper down, should you go into the danger zone! :nervous:) ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Gwendolyn on August 08, 2011, 08:59:09 pm ________________________________________ That would be awesome!!!! I wonder if he has a nerdish interest in space, astrophysics & whatnot? :flirt: (My nerd heart is hoping for a scientist husband who likes to talk about his work -- that way I won't have to go out and learn the nitty gritty stuff!) Also, it looks like he may get his wish of returning to combat. Did anyone else see Sgt. Leroy Petry on The Daily Show? He spoke about the brotherhood formed in combat and how much it means to fight alongside each other. Prince Harry seems to share that nature of genuine concern and dedication, so I hope he goes back, fights honorably & stays safe. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: mousiekins on August 08, 2011, 10:21:10 pm ________________________________________ Quote from: akasha2411 on August 08, 2011, 08:45:05 pm Quote all the hours of flying time that the prince is racking up may help him to achieve what one of his friends has claimed to be his secret ambition – to become an honorary member of Nasa’s space training programme. Since it's been so widely reported that he'll finished with training some time in the winter/spring of next year, these stories make it very easy to assume that if he doesn't attend those events, it's because he's deployed. A bit unsafe if you ask me. As for the NASA story, it's from this story originally: www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3736595/Prince-Harrys-bid-for-Nasa-training.html________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: leogirl on August 09, 2011, 12:58:25 am ________________________________________ ...then he needs to attend the Jubilee. It's a very important event, anyway. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Gwendolyn on August 09, 2011, 04:51:58 am ________________________________________ I don't know. If it's known that he's home at a certain time, that narrows down the options for when he might be deployed. I'd rather they left his whole year uncertain & kept him out of sight as much as possible. If it's certain he's going back, really, no one should know where he is until he's home & safe again. Just my two cents. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Yooper on August 09, 2011, 06:19:39 am ________________________________________ NASA welcomes you, Harry!!! I guess they could simulate some of the environments, but I don't think they could help him learn the all math and physics necessary. I don't doubt their friendliness, but there's a ton of people who have trained and worked for years at getting the proper qualifications, not many of them are gonna be impressed with a prince swooping with honorary membership, particularly one who has admitted to being awful at math. Yeah, it's honorary, but still, no one likes someone coming in and playing at something they're passionate about. Not to mention the cost involved. @alexandrine: I've noticed that too, but I don't know what else it could be. He hasn't finished Apache training and was just on vacation... ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: leogirl on August 09, 2011, 10:36:26 pm ________________________________________ Maybe he wanted to get away from everyone, or is using his vacation time now? ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: YooperModerator on August 09, 2011, 11:41:42 pm ________________________________________ err guy's, he wants to be an honourable member not an actual one! :KEZZA: It's like when a Hollywood star gets a honourable degree from their home town uni, they didn't study there, they just get the paper! There is alot of math and science that you have to understand before you can use it in the real world. (I am one so I would know) That would be a little insulting to the people who worked hard to get to work for NASA for them to allow him to skip an important requirement. No offense, but flying helicopter is not high level science. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Ella on August 10, 2011, 01:36:21 am ________________________________________ ^Agreed. ( :hi: I'm studying EE right now, but I'm thinking of changing to CE!) Even though it's honorary, the Sun says he wants to go through the training process. If all he gets is a piece of paper, fine by me, but anything else, it's not really fair to the hardworking scientists and engineers who want a place in training, imo. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Mimi on August 10, 2011, 02:22:53 am ________________________________________ ^ Sweet! I studied CE. I would tell you to switch but that would be a biased opinion. I still like Harry. I just don't understand how they would make that work. Either way, it is nice of him to give some attention to the nerds of the world. :sigh: ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: mousiekins on August 10, 2011, 02:40:42 am ________________________________________ So many stories swirl around Harry and his Military Career that I think it is always best to just wait and see ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Duchess of Ginger on August 10, 2011, 03:39:59 am ________________________________________ I wouldn't be surprised if his deployment is scheduled around the Diamond Jubilee b/c of safety reasons. If he isn't there it would make him and his regiment too easy of a target. And the NASA bit... about as legit as the Sun's story on him teaching Kate to fly which other reporters dismissed as B.S. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: leogirl on August 10, 2011, 08:09:36 am ________________________________________ Oh, I studied engineering in university, too. Don't get me wrong, I understand there is a lot of stuff to learn before they can go into space. A lot of math and science and other stuff (theory) that has to be practiced and memorized before they can go forward. But Harry isn't going to be an engineer. I think he might help on a mission or two, or fly into space, but he will end up going back to the military being a soldier or a pilot. He's not going to be a top person in that field anyway; his main destiny is to be a royal and support his brother William who will be King one day as long as the monarchy is still in place when the time comes. I think in his case, he maybe can learn through real-world experience and simulations and wouldn't need all the training for a job (i.e. years of engineering school) he isn't going to do anyway. Anyway, there is probably >90% chance the NASA story is a fake. No point in getting worked up over something that probably isn't even real. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: Ella on August 10, 2011, 09:13:32 pm ________________________________________ Random update: The show's airdate and time have been released. Title: Re: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: Kahleigh on August 14, 2011, 01:34:53 am ________________________________________ An article about the the documentary from the DailyMail: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2025685/How-Harrys-heroes-conquered-pole--lost-ears.htmlQuote Guide Inge Solheim spotted the danger signs immediately. As the team of explorers stood chatting on the ice cap during an expedition to the North Pole, the ears of one of his charges suddenly turned white, a symptom of impending frostbite. Without hesitation, he skied across to warn the man to put his hood up while trekking in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, where temperatures can drop to minus 50C and winds reach speeds of 110mph. It was a relatively insignificant incident in a place where tragedy is only one misplaced step away, except for one thing: the young man whose ears had been saved by the quick-thinking Norwegian was Prince Harry. The third in line to the Throne was in the Arctic with a group of injured soldiers, who were completing one of man’s greatest challenges: a 12-day trek across the ‘Devil’s Dancefloor’. Although Harry did not join them for the full 160-mile journey, he spent ten days with them – including three days on the ice – sharing the very real dangers. Now a new documentary, Harry’s Arctic Heroes, reveals the bonds the men forged in such a hostile environment. It was on the Prince’s final day that he got frostnip. ‘I was happily here chatting,’ he says during the programme, ‘and then Inge came over and said, “Your ears! Your ears!” Apparently they went white quite quickly.’ From the sands of Afghanistan to the frozen wastes of the Arctic, the journey for all the servicemen had been a long one. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: Kahleigh on August 15, 2011, 11:36:41 pm ________________________________________ Trailer for 'Harry's Arctic Heroes': www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fWqk7yZsXM&feature=channel_video_title________________________________________ Title: Re: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: mousiekins on August 16, 2011, 01:28:45 am ________________________________________ :thankyou: ________________________________________ Title: Re: Harry's Arctic Warriors Post by: Gwendolyn on August 16, 2011, 06:34:08 am ________________________________________ Does anyone know if this will be available to watch somewhere on the internet? Looking at some of his past behavior, who would have guessed!? Harry is really starting to come into his own. If William doesn't watch out, Harry will leave him in the dust........ ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: mousiekins on November 16, 2011, 06:38:24 am ________________________________________ He already has in many people's books. William is competitive but does not like to have to work for it. Harry always works hard but at school it never showed in the classroom because he was not too bright and had trouble learning (dyslexia has been mentioned more and more). But for me the biggest thing is drive and inclination. Why would William want to work for something when he gets everything handed on a plate for him, when he does nothing but is still praised and when he can mess up and the Palace covers it up? But then you have Harry who works hard but is condemned, who does alot of good but that good is ignored and lies are made up to make Harry look bad so that William can look good beside him. Harry has a reason to work hard and to succeed because noone is going to hand anything to him and he has something to prove. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Albany on November 18, 2011, 02: :08 am ________________________________________ Good points. And I have to say, I've always had a gut feeling that William would end up abdicating for whatever reason and leave Harry to be King (although that is highly unlikely...) William just doesn't seem to want anything to do with the "top job," especially after the comments he made a few months ago. And even though Harry has had a few rough patches in the past, I think we will really start to see him blossom (*despise* that word, but....) over the next few years and end up developing into a truly great man. I'm actually excited about seeing what he ends up doing.... ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Kuei Fei on November 18, 2011, 06:20:45 am ________________________________________ Well, Pippa will be disappointed to hear that; she and the DM have picked out her outfit that she will wear and the ring that Harry will use whne he proposes to her! ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Albany on November 20, 2011, 12: :40 am ________________________________________ Oh Lord! And anyway, if Harry's nickname for Waity is "the Limpet" :tehe:, then he's got the Middleton girls' numbers already. He seems to be too aware of what those two are about to get sucked into the same trap as his brother. :Kate: And thanks everyone for the explanation of what a "Limpet" actually is. Geez, you guys. I know we have our share of slanted journalism here but this goes beyond favoritism. I'm surprised the editor of the DM's nose is still is still flesh-colored, if it is. Having studied journalism for some time, I am particularly sensitive to the print media and I have been known to wipe my behind with some of the things that are printed in the US, but good grief, I didn't realize, I really didn't, that the DM is an absolute sell-out. Wow. 8) As for Harry? He'll be just fine; of that I have no, nada, doubt, so no worries there. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: Mooster on November 20, 2011, 11:00:42 am ________________________________________ The DM have temporarily let Harry off the hook regarding Pippa - they are currently shining the lamp on poor old Percy :tehe: ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry warned not to commit himself to attending diamond Jubilee Post by: MOSAIC on November 20, 2011, 05:24:01 pm ________________________________________ Quote from: Albany on November 16, 2011, 02:27:12 am Harry is really starting to come into his own. There is no way that Pippa would be looked at by Percy and I think that the RF is feverishly trying to figure out how to extract Kate from this momentous occasion while saving face. Harry should be able to go and it wasn't until after the marriage that Harry suddenly wouldn't be able ot make the Jubilee. I think the Palace wants Harry to go, but at the same time, they can't afford any "Harry/Pippa" love stories coming out when this HAS to be all about HM. ________________________________________ Title: Sentebale Post by: mousiekins on December 06, 2011, 04:17:59 pm ________________________________________ Prince Harry at the presentation and dinner for the Sentebale December 5th 2011. www.everybodysmile.biz/cgi-bin/public.cgi?Id=139069s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz0ertBu1qbymgro2_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323273652&Signature=V5CXX3FEieuYpzwPrdaZURT6bis%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz0ertBu1qbymgro3_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323273653&Signature=C%2FJaXf5vjpqAodGfBtbWzPOMgPE%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz0ertBu1qbymgro4_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323273655&Signature=%2BsbQYjWDHClXCslE5vQMJ37YMSk%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz0ertBu1qbymgro5_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323273656&Signature=wLotUXOUM2G1W6c3WcU760DQxjE%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz0ertBu1qbymgro6_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323273658&Signature=FnZBPl57O3Z1Uvi789k8aV6EX7c%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz0ertBu1qbymgro7_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323273660&Signature=Otd0Binn2SrT5Sh%2BODmm7KGbv2Y%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274110&Signature=qBtjiT32NGCzrDOt8r8PCgHNxe8%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro2_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274113&Signature=nXrJ4c7u%2BM5tAqlLR3GnkZQXXco%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro3_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274114&Signature=%2BZsRiDDXMMxhRTv3Z8JWVp1STGo%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro4_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274115&Signature=SECHzrIKZQzHUSCQyBgkRD7E0W0%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro5_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274116&Signature=4DFhiWjej7kMyW%2FJQOLGA2cIHGk%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro6_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274117&Signature=6PwJl6U4YZLaMQ3avKieYBjMzKs%3Ds3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lvmz2xj6d01qbymgro7_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323274119&Signature=rsbW8ZmwySzeSfjjE3tLHZgbk0Q%3D________________________________________ Title: Re: Sentebale Dinner Dec 5th Post by: libbyrose on December 06, 2011, 04:35:55 pm ________________________________________ Mousie!!!! :loveshower: would go like Middleton nasty on you right now , thanks for the pics!! ________________________________________ Title: Re: Sentebale Dinner Dec 5th Post by: Grace and Diana Fan on December 06, 2011, 04:37:13 pm ________________________________________ Harry looks better and better everytime I see him! :loveshower: ________________________________________ Title: Re: Sentebale Dinner Dec 5th Post by: serene grace on December 06, 2011, 05:26:22 pm ________________________________________ Well done Prince Harry. Thankyou for the correction  I think he may have chewed up cuticles which he may protect from bashing, I know the pain of that :wopedo: I had a period where no matter what they would peel, get really sore and I had to put some form of cover otherwise they would get ripped (ouch!) or made even more sore through catching and bashing. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Sentebale Dinner Dec 5th Post by: Magnolia on December 07, 2011, 01:25:02 am ________________________________________ Quote from: rogue on December 06, 2011, 08:40:01 pm Its time that somebody gives Harry his own staff. Post by: rogue on January 02, 2012, 11:24:01 pm ________________________________________ www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/prince-harry/8986135/Prince-Harry-is-all-set-to-climb-Mount-Everest.htmlQuote Prince Harry is all set to climb Mount Everest Prince Harry will make good on his promise to the wounded servicemen he joined on their trek to the North Pole to join them on their next challenge - the world's highest mountain Quote With the celebrations to to mark his grandmother’s diamond jubilee, the Olympics and his first official solo tour taking him to Jamaica, Belize and the Bahamas, the year ahead already looks hectic enough for Prince Harry. The third in line to the throne is, however, adamant that 2012 will also see him realise his long-held ambition to conquer Everest. The 27-year-old prince dropped a broad hint at the end of his trek to the North Pole last year to raise money for Walking With the Wounded, the charity of which he is patron, that he wanted to join the group of wounded servicemen on their next challenge in May, which will see them climbing the world’s highest mountain. Buckingham Palace has since declined to comment on whether it would be possible to fit the climb into his schedule – “it will all depend on his Army commitments,” his spokesman will say only – and there has been no comment, either, from the charity. Now, however, Mollie Hughes, the 21-year-old mountaineer who plans to become the youngest British woman to climb Everest when she makes her own ascent with Kenton Cool in May, and who has been co-ordinating their climb with that of the Walking With the Wounded group, has told Mandrake she has been told that the prince will also be going up. “He won’t be doing the full climb as it will take a long time and it requires rigorous training so I think he’ll be joining at a base camp,” she tells me. She adds that she is aware of the Walking With the Wounded group’s plans as they are planning their climb in the same month as hers and they are expected to be staying at the South Base Camp in Nepal, where the two groups will prepare for the testing conditions on the mountain. The weather and a range of other factors mean that the Spring – any time between March and May – is reckoned to be the best time to climb Everest. Quote Happily, the climb does not conflict with any of the prince’s existing engagements with his spokesman saying that his first solo official tour has still to be put in his diary. The prince struck up a quick rapport with the group of wounded servicemen that he joined for four days last April on their successful trip to the North Pole. “I think for me, personally, I’m hugely proud to be a British soldier, to walk alongside these guys,” he said. “What these guys have done – and what they will continue to do throughout their lives – is just truly inspirational.” He assured them, too, he would see them on their next challenge. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Prince Harry & Mount Everest. Prince Harry is patron of the organisation, and even took part in a walk himself to the North Pole in 2011. But hopes for this year's trip were dashed after warm weather increased the risk of avalanches. Organiser Martin Hewitt said he was "gutted", but that carrying on would cause “serious injury and potential loss of life". Harry is passionate about using his international profile to raise awareness for wounded war veterans. The young royal told of the group's frustrated attempt as he collected a humanitarian award in Washington on Monday. Despite the setback, he said: "The mere fact that they are up there on that fearsome peak, I find totally amazing." www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/05/10/one-sherpa-killed-another-breaks-back-as-harry-s-everest-climbers-turn-back.html________________________________________ Title: Re: Harry & Walking with the wounded Post by: Dita on May 11, 2012, 10:35:51 pm ________________________________________ That's awful what's happened to the Sherpas. Where is she and why does Harry have to take all work off WK?? THe Nazi thing was very stupid of him. But I have to tell you from a half German, that he was /is not the only one making fun of that. I had some exchange students from baltimore and the UK and they did the same dressing up with these bomber jackets and "Springer"boots (don't know what they are called in English) with the super stupid guys from my class (who were in this Nazi thing) and said things that firstly I don't want to repeat here and secondly every war vet would kick them so hard that they would fly to the moon. And they were at the same age as Harry was then. One even had a relative who was stationed in Rammstein. Where this fascination comes from I have no idea, but there IS a "fascination" (Sorry, if it sounds brutally but some, and not only German ones, have a fascination with this horrible time which is not understandable, even if it is meant as a joke. Prince Harry is planning an expedition to the South Pole. The third in line to the British throne has plans to join a Walking With The Wounded charity expedition of injured servicemen in a race to the South Pole. Co-founder of the charity, Edward Parker, said the prince - who has previously joined servicemen on part of a trek to the North Pole - was very keen to be involved. He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "He would love to do it - he's told us so. He's a 26-year-old bloke who loves adventures, and the core of what he is, is a soldier. "He considers himself to be one of them, and they consider him to be one of them, too." The expedition is being planned for next year and will involve around a dozen injured servicemen racing in teams. ________________________________________ Title: Beating bullies Post by: Nighthawk on July 08, 2012, 11:18:03 am ________________________________________ Quote Beating bullies The Duchess of Cambridge, who asked her wedding guests to donate to an anti-bullying charity, is not the only member of the Royal family to stand up against children’s tormentors. I feel the same way too. I don't think that his enthusiasm or concern for the cause is fake, however, the reasons why he gets involved with these charities is what I question. I remember reading that his team have worked very hard to change his image. It didn't bother me when I read that because I was thinking he's finally maturing and taking on more responsibility. It seems now that these charities were chosen to only bolster his image and not something he wanted to go on his own. I say that because I doubt that he would carrying on with his shupid partying with little concern with how his actions would affect the charities. :wopedo: he could party, but he seems to go way over board to the point of impaired judgement and substance abuse. bignono

I think he is genuine for his charities when he is there with them. But maturity would teach him that it matters what you do the rest of the time. One day he will understand... although is that wishful thinking on my part, when you consider Prince Andrew, who still doesn't understand the nature of his role. No more Santa Claus indeed. I feel somewhat sad  and badly let down. The funny thing is that I feel really silly for feeling like this because I do not even know him personally!!! but I really liked him. I guess the reason I feel like this is because I have been a fan of his for a very long time and the whole situation revealed to me the kind of person he just might be and it does not match the image of him that I have in my mind. I suppose that will teach me to hold a particular image in my mind about people that I do not know personally. Maybe it is better to be cynical about them all. :sigh: I can only share this feelling here because I dare not tell my hubby how am feeling. He will have a field day laughing at me. Las Vegas was at the epicentre of TW's downfall and he really has failed to regain his playing position and his place in peoples' hearts. Once you let daylight in it's too late to stop the damage. Tom Sykes of the Daily Beast's comments on the documentary: Quote Harry still has buckets of charm, but it was also plainly apparent that his Vegas clowning has seriously undermined his credibility. www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/08/27/harry-s-tv-doc-screens-in-uk.html________________________________________ Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: lothwen on August 28, 2012, 03:26:55 pm ________________________________________ I don't see this as a "Tiger Woods" moment at all. Harry isn't married, and while he and Cressida may have spent some time together we had nothing that indicated that they were in a serious relationship. Neither do we know if he knew the blonde girl in the picture that he was rumored to have sex with (some people say he did know her, others say they just met.) And even if he did just meet her in Vegas and then have sex with her, that's not so unusual. I see Harry as sincere in his charitable efforts. It is possible for a person to be dedicated to the military and have a genuine and caring heart and affection for those who are less fortunate, and also for that same person to go out on vacation and make a complete *butt* of themself. So for me, nothing with Harry has changed. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: True Brit on August 28, 2012, 03:52:35 pm ________________________________________ Lothwen I wish I had your optimism on this :flower:- but I'm too long in the tooth I guess and have seen this sort of thing before. Nothing to do with him being married - it's all to do with the fact the palace PR has admitted they spent 10 years "building up a personae" for him - in other words - it's all false. IMG were doing exactly the same with Tiger. Every aspect of their public face is carefully controlled. The Queen pulled a documentary which was aired in the 1960s as it made them look too dull and ordinary. She knows what happens when the public find out too much. Never let daylight in for it diminishes them all.

Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: Yooper on August 28, 2012, 04:04:02 pm ________________________________________ ^Agreed. I've been around the block too many times and seen lives completely destroyed because of reckless and senseless behavior. But, when it enters the world of philanthropy, however well-meaning the person may be, no solid foundation is going to risk their hard-earned reputation because behind that wall of money stand many, many conservative donors who do NOT condone this, so it's like walking on a razor blade and the wise course of action is to call a time out and re-evaluate and wait. I can only speak for the many times we have pulled a campaign face because of behavior unbecoming to our mission. A lawyer, for instance, pillar of the community, major donor and trusted board member, was filmed at a strip club eating some woman's underwear (the edible kind, I hope) and he was asked to step down. He was not married at the time, but to have him associated with funding for a children's education program was a PR disaster. That was 2 years ago or so and people still only remember that, not all the good works he did. You have to learn this at some point in life. A good reputation and name is more valuable than gold, I hear. A DUI can get you fired, for instance, if you don't go in for treatment. It's just the way it is once you hit a certain strati in the grown up world. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: JuneBug on August 28, 2012, 04:09:08 pm ________________________________________ ^ Lothwen I thought he was very selective about who he shares his body with. I never for one minute believed all that he had sex with this and that that the British press always print about him. Even when Cheryl Cole and Katy Perry said they wanted to get with Harry, I said to myself “Dream on both of you. He has more class than that” Now I see that he does not. For me it is very simple before I respect a person, his private persona must match his public one. I am tired of public figures e.g politicians who make good and look good in public but are very careless when it comes to their private lives. It just does not fly with me. I am sorry but the two (public and private ) must be in sync for me to like / respect a person. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: windsor2 on August 28, 2012, 04:55:53 pm ________________________________________ ^me too. I wonder if his recklessness has left a woman pregnant? I think that he's shown that he has very little regard for himself sexually. Could that be the next gigantic bomb to hit the fan? Is the Palace scrambling to to pay off the woman that supposedly have a big story go tell? Could the reason that this documentary's shown at this time is to remind people of the good that Harry's done? This is why I'm upset at the dhe situation. These charities seem only to have been chosen a means to sure up Harry's image and nothing to do him choking these because he could lend a hand, IMO. ________________________________________ Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: Jane23 on August 28, 2012, 05:57:24 pm ________________________________________ Besides the fact this documentary was to be screened before Vegas :sly: and has nothing to do with that mess...Dear Lord you would think The Pope got naked in the privacy of his suite lol...this is HARRY Jesus Christ HARRY!!! Never let daylight in for it diminishes them all. ^^ This, I completely agree. Any admission that the real 'problem' with Harry's antics in Vegas is to do with the image and not the person under fire makes it all much more tawdry and disappointing. Both from the perspective that (a) if Harry does have a problem (and has had one for 10 years!) no one is concerned enough to take any action and do something about it farther than his public image is concerned and (b) that royals only do charity as a last resort at keeping their increasingly irrelevant positions. While I have always suspected that (b) was true, it's important that the people who foot the bills continue to willfully ignore that little fact or that it's brushed under the rug. To address (a), I didn't realize until I saw the thread posted that it's coming up on 15 years of Princess Diana's death. Who knows if Harry's recent blackout trips were a way to cope with or avoid dealing with unpleasant memories that happy around this time? :sigh: ________________________________________ Title: Re: Walk with the Wounded Post by: Spice on August 29, 2012, 12:22:48 am ________________________________________ ^ Insightful post.
