Completely agree with this.

Wm and Kate assumed they would be seen as the second coming and wouldn't have to lift a finger. Chuck and HM know better and realize that Wm is on a downward spiral. Until Wm decides to throw himself into his royal role, the RF is going to promote Harry. Distract and redirect 101.

notice how while Harry was in SA there were no royal engagements for the duo - Harry is on his way home - duo were out and about today. They seem to have a policy of never competing with another's tours/big events.

Kate and Will are really bottoming out - will need some major help to overcome the negative impressions of the last week.

If Labor ends up getting a Prime Minister in position and the new Prime Minister starts making Tony Blair look like a Tory (in regards to dealing with the monarchy) I believe HM will order them to work. As is, HM has now just lost free legal services, something that is going to come as a huge blow.

A loom band...how old is this guy again? It is the latest rage on primary schools in The Netherlands and with the exception of a few parents with children who were creative for Father's or Mother's Day, no adult in her/ his right mind would be spotted with these things.

Read an assessment of the younger royals (W, H, K, B, E) seeming lack of work on behalf of the royal family. The writer asserts that it was Edward VII, as PofW, who started the practice of the RF "being seen" through lots of public appearances, in agreement with Jane Ridely's book. The practice continued because of mor@le boosting efforts during both world wars. After WWII, the public appearances were a way to justify funding the expenses of an extended family that no longer had the assets to support themselves. The appearances increased to fill the time of all the family members because they no longer had the traditional time-fillers to occupy them. The writer posits that the trimmed down royal family (due to rejection of titles by members, aging of older members and those no longer receiving royal funds) have put pressure on the remaining members to keep up the overall number of public appearances. In other words, keeping the same quantity of appearances with fewer people.

Writer believes that PC is trying to reduce the overall number of public engagements by the RF and therefore the number of RF members that will fulfill appearance requests. This means that W, K, H, B and E will not be making the number of appearances that have been done by older members in the past in order to trim down the number of RF patronages. Many of the patronages should be taken over by other public figures and only a core group of institutions/charities should be attached to the RF. These individual groups will be the 'inspiration' groups to draw attention to a need to can be fulfilled by more that one group at local levels. In summary, if the RF doesn't reduce the draw on the public purse and, consolidate their 'message' of public service by all citizens via limited patronages it is at increasingly high risk over the next decade of being made redundant and accelerating the republic movement.

Truth be told, public figures like celebrities and even politicians already run their own charities, it's practically a requirement in the US after getting well off and the RF is pretty much going in a disreputable direction. Charities are tired of being used for PR and image boosting and thing is, William should have had more than just a few patronages. He should be head (and involved) of at least ten and be promoting them, but isn't. As for the Duchy, he should be a veteran of running it and be well involved.

It was a serendipitous find while searching for info about an osteoporosis foundation that had sent a solicitation letter. Then I wandered off on links that looked interesting. The sequence was something like this: osteo -> list of osteo charities -> sidebar about Camilla -> link to PC -> blogs about royal charity involvement -> blog about PC and his charities -> linked to a blog about PC and reduced charity patronages by RF members. And I can't find it again.

Helen Rapaport once wrote in one of her books on Queen Victoria (and her descendants) that it was Queen Victoria who started the practise of taking up patronages and royal duties in order to keep her eldest son (Edward VII) busy so he would have less time drinking, gambling, philandering etc. I'll see if I can find the quote and right book.

Not entirely the same position. The pilot is indeed the son of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, but that does not mean he will become King at all. The prince is a son of the Crown prince with his third wife and has plenty of older brothers.
And besides that, the decision on who becomes Crown Prince in Saudi Arabia is made by the King and he can change the succession if and when he wants. And this has happened in the past. So there is no real line of succession like there is in western monarchies.

^In their defense, Cameron has to actually go to Parliament and do something first re ISIS so it would be awkward for PW to leap into anything. But, when/if Cameron does deploy, I would think that would include Harry but PW would do rescue work whenever his training period is over.

That was centuries ago. Recently, heirs to the throne or those in direct line are kept from front line action. William never had to go to Afghanistan for that reason.

I think HM has reached her breaking point in regards to patience. Soon HM will be too tired out and will want a rest and I am certain that since Harry is living his own life and carving his own role, William can't foist work on to Harry. So Kate and William are going to be pushed, whether they like it or not.

As for Kate, time to grow up and stop pushing for the RF to do more for her than they already have. They've done more than enough already. She's every epitome of why someone who isn't used to that way of life should not be marrying in. She keeps trying to create a home life where she is living a carefree, responsibility free life and everyone around her should be tickled pink to end up picking up after her and doing the heavy lifting while she sits on her arse at home being waited on 24/7.

I cannot get why she doesn't understand that the RF and royal way of life isn't supposed to be all about her all the time. I think William will start dragging her along and make her show up at his side and behave. No more messing with schedules, he goes, she goes as his consort and escort, as she's supposed to.

There is talk in London that so many questioned PW's right to fly (being allegedly colour blind and frequently wearing specs) that it was taken to the top brass. There were even comments in the DM that it should be investigated at the very top as no one else would have been allowed to fly under those circumstances. Insiders are saying that is the reason for the delays, postponements and confusion as to when he will actually start the job. It is being said that by March there will be another excuse!!

Will is supposed to accompany the Queen and Prince Phillip to open the WWI remembrance garden at wellington barracks on 11/6 - he is now pres (?) of the group which is keeping up the WWI and II monuments so it seems this is why he is accompanying them

It really is awful that people are vandalizing these memorials - apparently they are stealing the metal from them to sell for scrap

Fully agree with you there; in the US it's worse, they come here, take welfare, and then demand we adjust to THEIR cultures. Frankly, I view a lot of these immigrants as refusing to take responsibility for their lives, which is what freedom is all about. Too many immigrants want to be taken care of, not work for their own futures.

In his defense...foxes have no natural enemy in the UK (and on much of the continent). As a result, they breed like crazy and there is a massive overpopulation which affects the population of many other animals ranging from rabits to squirrels and of course chickens.
And believe me, finding a henhouse the morning after a fox dropped by and killed all 55 chickens and not eating one of them, is not a nice sight.

So the killing of some foxes, I understand. But not as a sport. Foxhunts are very cruel and it could be done more humane. But then Wimpo would miss all his fun and we can't have that of course.

Getting only ABC in your A-levels when you go to Eton is pretty embarassing as well, it's pretty much the best school in Britain (and it wasn't exactly like he did tough subjects).That wouldn't have been good enough for SA if he didn't have fame and status on his side, and it's certainly nowhere near good enough for Cambridge! I know Harry didn't do well either but I suspect he has learning difficulties like Diana did (and I do actually consider Harry to be smarter than William, he wouldn't be dumb enough to marry into the Medds and he at least has emotional/social intelligence whereas Bill doesn't have any kind).

It's so sad. What an absolute waste.

To get into the course William chose to do at SA he needed two Bs and a C and he got one A, one B and one C so he did have the grades for the History of Art course.

He was, at best an average student, but he did get the required grades.

Harry was below average with a B and a D.

We don´t even know how he got his degree. It is a pretty well known fact in elevated circles that most universities would give royals a decent degree, even if they were as thick as two short planks, which I suspect wimpo probably is. Would not pay them in the long term not to. Sadly for the current day rf the public know so much more than they ever did years ago, and it is only the sycphoants these days who are in awe of them, more fools them.
