"Gary was the subject of much negotiation," a royal source says. "Initially, he was only invited to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey and not to the queen's afternoon reception and Prince Charles' nighttime party.
"But the prospect of Uncle Gary visiting a central London pub in the afternoon and holding forth about the family wedding was viewed inside Buckingham Palace as a recipe for disaster. So he'll be attending every wedding event."
Royal minders will be on hand, however, to ensure that Gary doesn't spend too much time with William's exuberant younger brother and best man, Prince Harry. "Nobody wants to see 'When Harry Met Gary' headlines in the papers," the source adds.

So what if he does; everyone will want to know and that's pretty harmless.

This story really makes no sense! What difference does it make whether he visits the pub and spews his mouth on the actual wedding day or the following week? The article also states UG's supposedly stopped drinking so why would they be worried about him visiting a pub, if that's truly the case?!
Are the royals going to ingratiate UG and kiss his feet so that he doesn't talk negatively? Now he'll have more of an insiders view to talk about afterwards, rather than just being able to say he was relegated to the Goring Hotel, where he belongs, and not allowed into the palace. ...
Allowing UG to step foot in Buckingham Palace is akin to accepting him into the royal fold, imo. Sounds like UG my in fact get to have his Goldsmith wing afterall! Especially considering that William and Kate have purportedly chosen to take up residence there and the Goldsmith's were included symbolicly in Kate's Coat of Arms.
...

the Midds are worrying about the wrong things; for one, the Palace is used to people talking to the public and all and sundry, second, the public will find out anyway. Carole is causing messes of her own and Kate is a walking dream come true for the tabloids. Kate isn't going to change as a person when she gets taht ring and neither will her family and their reputation. The biggest letdown for the Middlescum will be when the 'big transformation' doesn't happen.

I came to the same conclusion - arrant nonsense. IMO, this article unsuccessfully attempts to explain his inclusion into the whole melee. :June:

If it is true I am starting to feel a tiny bit sorry for Uncle G. Yep he may be an unpleasant drug taker and all round chav but he makes no bones about it and he has genuinely made his money and it's not shrouded in mystery like the Middleton's money. He will start feeling very angry and in the end he'll probably be the one to say oh to hell with this...have a drink too many, smoke something illegal and talk to the press.
It really can't be very nice knowing you are being sneered at and tolerated and being closely guarded so you don't embarrass anyone.

Hi TB, well I agree I do not care in the least what a gobby slob with too much money and time on his hands chooses to ingest into his own body.
Where I do draw the line is the peddling of - now what was it - fresh young girls - according to the recordings made by the NOTW?
I simply cannot feel sorry for someone who does that, and it's even worse IMO because he doesn't need to do it to survive. He's not on the streets, trying to make a buck by any means open to him.
I don't think pity is appropriate here, but again, just my opinion. Why he is still coming to this wedding is inexplicable. Let his daughter and her mother come on their own, due to their prior relationship with Kate, it will be less embarrassing for the child when she has to go back to school.
Still, we all know someone like him does not have it in him to stay away.
I'm very interested as to why the details of the Midds invitees have not been put on the public release. Too many 'why's, one presumes? The Billington clan, and extended people and the Middleton family. Someone's got a list..somewhere. Will it pop up on wikileaks I wonder?

Perhaps pity isn't the correct word Penelope but this lot are equally as nasty and vulgarian and are trying to pretend otherwise (is what I was trying to say) and the pimping is definitely off limits. From what I've seen of the Midds invitees they are pretty trashy.
Here's another thing it is said PW and Waity do not want the list releasing. It's just pathetic how they try to play games with the press and public. I would imagine the BBC is particularly hacked off with this as they are the main broadcaster and they need to reasearch details of guests as they arrive.

Like, when they aren't invited to major events, when their reputation isn't white washed into perfection, when the world doesn't grovel on their knees. When their past misdeeds are erased or completely forgiven. No one will let them forget their origins and no one will let them forget Kate's past antics. Kate won't be warmly embraced by the RF and William's set won't fawn over her. her past slandering won't be forgotten andshe won't be respected by staff; her life won't be the life Diana had with everyone cheering her on all the time nad her life being one big celebration that keeps going on and on and on. The world won't transform itself into a Kate-cnetered planet the way it interestingly did with Diana.

This is stupid. Do they really think that keeping him in 'the fold' for ONE day is going to make some drastic restoration of dignity for this fiasco? Let the dude speak in pubs wherever he likes. And I hope he does, and often. And somethin' tells me he will.
