An interesting item I came across: Prince Sigvard Bernadotte, son of King Gustaf VI Adolf It seems for all his accomplishments, the current King didn't seem to treat him well. Your name is your NAME - I can see his point. sweden.kcomposite.com/sigvard-bernadotte/

Amazing what he was forced to give up to marry a commoner and these days princes seem to compete against each other to marry the worst possible type.

Agree that it is amazing what they had to give up and what is happening now.
Silvia was a commoner in Germany. Victoria marries her personal trainer. Carl Philip marries a realty television contestant and supposed model. Madeleine married a financer.
Things have certainly changed.

Madelaine also married an American and oddly, Chris is not subjected to anti-American bashing in Sweden. Maybe being the son of King Charles' many one night stands protects him for some reason. Madeleine has turned her back on Sweden while still retaining her title and maybe even taxpayer support. Plus Madeleine does not have to put up the facade of being interested in earning a living and I am certain her husband gets all sorts of kickbacks. Yet strangely, Chris and Madeleine get a huge pass. Plus Madeleine gets full participation in royal events as a full member and her husband's title is recognized by the Swedish nation.
Meg is a first rate fruit loop, but the reigning dynasties are grossly unfair.

It was the Swedish Constitution, which they followed to a "T" - The Bernadotte Dynasty was a fairly young one. But, yes, it was amazing what they gave up, but believe he married a few times and one wasn't such a reputable type? At least he worked and made a name for himself in his field.

Eva O' Neil (Chris' mother) was a fling of King Charles when Charles was Prince of Wales and married to Diana. So Eva is also an adulteress by messing with a married man.
As for the Bernadottes, they are descendants of one of Napoleon's generals, so no real royal lineage, more descent by right of conquest. So really, marrying nobodies is more their level either way. I find it regrettable that Madeleine is so disliked by the Swedes, but she really needs to go back to Sweden when she decides to file paperwork and she should be made to renounce her titles and styles. Not just 'be known' as Mrs. Chris O' Neil, but she should be required to renounce her place in the succession and her titles/styles as well. Being disliked in Sweden isn't the problem of the US right now and it really is time that these royals are made to stay in and develop their own place.
Or they can sneak into the US via the Mexican border.

I didn't know that about Chris' mother - nice stock there. (sarcasm) Chris was born in 1974, so he would have been a boy whilst his mother was messing around. Nice role model (not), "lady". Yes, about the Bernadotte Dynasty and it's origins - they married with German princesses in order to give their line validity. The present line is also descended from the Empress Josephine, through her son Eugene (her granddaughter, Josephine) - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephine_of_Leuchtenberg

Now they have reverted to nothing but nobodies. I wish government officials would set standards; bring in jobs and prestige or nothing. Nothing will convince me that Madeleine is happy losing her annual allowance and I do not think she likes anonymous toil as a garden variety well supported wife. I do not believe that she really did intend to live an anonymous life. I wonder how Swedes feel knowing that their royals are not bringing in much. There are the annual Nobel Prize ceremonies, but other than that the royals live like rich socialites, but socialites that are supported by the taxpayer.

I didn't know that either about Chris' mother.
I only hear about the Swedish royals attending the Nobel Prize ceremonies. Generally, not much else seems to be reported in the media here in Australia. The only Scandi royals that get some media attention are Fred and Mary.
Trying to think back when we were holidaying in Sweden I can't recall much about them in the media. We stayed on Gamla Stan and walked past the palace most days. The palace in Stockholm (outside) is very ordinary compared to some of the others in different countries. We didn't take a tour of the palace so not sure what it was like inside.
