Aside:
"Thhhhhhhhhhhaddie, what's "Ohlussnass"?, Louis (Prince Louis, the 3rd of my exquisite ROYAL children, my they grow up so fast!) randomly shouted to no one in particular, as was his want, and I stifled a sob and brushed away a tear that dropped down my cheek. Louis was silently looking out the window, Princess Charlotte, my daughter, took his hand into hers, and looked at me. Those hypnotic eyes and shy, doe-eyed glance, that made me think of my mother, Princess Diana of Wales. I am haunted everyday. I took a deep breath and looked out the window. Common, everyday people just going on about their day. Were they working? Which one of their numerous houses would they be going back to at the end of the day?
I seemed unable to talk, let alone breathe properly.
"Thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaddie? Ama TALKIN to you. I wanna..."
"Shhh, my precious, what "Ohlussnass" is, is something that one NEVER should have to experience!". I managed to choke out. I looked down momentarily, a bit, though not that much, ashamed of not having the right answers.
"Gramma Middleton, too?", Louis looked puzzled. Charlotte piped out, "Granny would NEVER let us be homeless. Don't worry, my little brother!"
"I donut wanna go to school! I donut like that school...why canna I thay at home!"
The pater familias in me had to step up to comfort my children, my heirs, the country, their destiny...
"Don't worry, my precious lovelies, Papa Bear is working so hard that there will be no "Ohlussnass" anymore. Everybody will have a home and happiness will reign everywhere...and so will I!"
A loud cry of joy came out of Charlotte.
"See, Louis, there WILL be an early Christmas this year! Like Gramma and Mummy said!"
Looking in the rearview mirror, I could see that Louis was looking back at me, a slight smile on his face.
"Does this mean I can get another pony?"
We all had a good, hardy laugh.
