Everything she did, she did out of survival. Women were not allowed to earn a living and there was no safety net. She didn't have a large powerful family to protect her and she didn't have much by way of book smarts either.

She was treated like garbage by the Bonaparte family; she was a huge part of the reason that Napoleon became Emperor and that anyone even knows who the Bonaparte family is and yet they mistreated her horribly.

But she had the last (royal) laugh...whose family (descendants) sit on several thrones as of today? Let me see, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg...could be missing one or two.

Exactly. She was a much better class of person and it is clear that Napoleon was a worthless parvenu. She really should have married a banker or diplomat or someone who wasn't psychotically consumed with ambition the way Napoleon was.
