They look completely Anglo-Saxon/Germanic and not at all like people who are making a constructive contribution to their people's well being. If you study the histories of a lot of these people, you may be pleasantly surprised how much they benefitted their people. From assisting the poor, ensuring their people were educated, patronizing the arts/sciences, etc. From the Anglo-Saxon heritage and particularly from the Gotha line (but there are others, too), we get royals who had a true altruistic sense of helping and benefitting others. I personally find it sad that this has mostly been ignored and forgotten with the modern day Windsors. It may not be obvious to a lot of royal watchers, etc, as the biographies/accounts/histories of a lot of these past royal figures are either not commonly known and/or printed in other languages. But, yes, in some of the portraits of the time they can look especially distant and remote. And not to diss the Greek royals in particular, but I'm not aware of any modern day Greek royal descendants who are emulating their ancestors by being selfless/being truly concerned with the welfare of "their" people/ supporting those who are actively working for change, etc. I would love to be proven wrong. As an aside, just looking at Olga, though, (Duke of Edinburgh's paternal grandmother) I can see some of her looks in her grandson.

Good point and thanks for the reminder; I am just feeling insanely testy right now and not at all in a good mood.
These days, they're just worse than useless, they don't even try.

You're welcome! I can certainly understand feeling testy, etc - we are all allowed not to be in a good mood. It means we are paying attention (for one). Yes, these days, they just want the world to celebrate them for looking after their own interests. It's pathetic!

The current Greek royals want to be 'back' so bad, but they have done nothing to convince anyone to give it back. They do nothing for the Greek people and they do nothing for the Greek government. They contribute nothing and the "Crown Princess" supposedly does not even speak Greek.

I hope with Constantino's death, there will not be any kind of rehash of hoping for a restoration. Pavlos would be best to just stay where he is, make sure his ditz wife is in fact not going to declare him and herself King and Queen of Greece/Hellenes and then make Greek politicians angry. Just a refresher, Constantino overthrew the elected liberal Prime Minister, installed a rightist Prime Minister, and proceeded to have triggered the coup that installed the right wing junta. After that, he proceeded to bail out and leave his nation behind and left the Greek people to suffer under that dictatorship for decades. Juan Carlos allegedly shouted at Constantine to go back and fight for the freedom of his nation and end up at least fighting that tyranny and even if he died, that is what he had to do. Yet Constantine would not do that and so he had been in exile and only very recently allowed to return and live and die there. The next couple of days will be telling and if Marie-Chantal proclaims herself Queen Consort of Greece, I wonder if the politicos will blow a gasket.

I wonder how Greek politicians feel; they might well be waiting to see if the Greek "RF" decides to proclaim Pavlos as King and MC as Queen, or if both MC and Pavlos decide to declare that they will not be pretending to any throne and are content with their current titles and will remain as such until they die and their titles are phased out. I sometimes wonder if whether or not it will happen since to claim any title of sovereignty, it is a challenge to the authority of the government of the Hellenes. So go figure, the Glucksbergs have to make a public statement either way and in my view this is all on them.

www.insider.com/princess-marie-chantal-etiquette-manners-begin-before-breakfast-book-2020-6 Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece has shared her tips and tricks on royal etiquette for families in her book, "Manners Begin at Breakfast: Modern Etiquette for Families," published earlier this year. Marie-Chantal became a member of the Greek royal family after her wedding to Crown Prince Pavlos in 1995. The couple have five children together. Rather than focus on how to behave at glitzy state banquets and movie premieres, Marie-Chantal gives a glimpse into the family's private lives — including play dates and family vacations. In the book, the princess speaks about the importance of ensuring your children understand "grandparent etiquette," and how to correctly prepare the family to travel abroad.Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Etiquette experts, commentators, and palace staff have all given their own definitions of royal etiquette through the years. Very rarely had the royals themselves spoken publicly on the subject — until now.
Marie-Chantal, Crown Princess of Greece has given fans an insight into the etiquette rules the royal family abide by in her book, "Manners Begin at Breakfast: Modern Etiquette for Families."
Marie-Chantal became a member of the Greek royal family upon her marriage to Crown Prince Pavlos in 1995. Since then, they have welcomed five children: Maria-Olympia, Constantine Alexios, Achileas-Andreas, Odysseas Kimon, and Aristide.
The London-born childrenswear designer has experience in handling a stark contrast in social situations — from state banquets and movie premieres, to play dates and simple family meals.
The book, though, focuses mainly on family, and how to teach your children manners — hence, giving fans a glimpse of a royal family behind closed doors.
She may be a princess, but Marie-Chantal doesn't mind being called just 'MC' While Marie-Chantal encourages her children to refer to adults by their last names, she said she doesn't mind at all being called just by her initials. And, it seems, the "HRH" title isn't even a factor.
"I've noticed that many of the children who come to my house seem confused about how they should address me," Marie-Chantal wrote.
"I tell my children's friends to call me MC; I know other parents prefer to be called Mr. or Mrs. when addressed."

Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images She went on: "The best thing to do is simply ask. If your child doesn't know how to address their friend's parent, teach them to say, 'Excuse me, what should I call you?'
"When in doubt, however, it's always safest to call parents by their last name unless otherwise instructed," she added.
More royals seem to be following this protocol in recent years, with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being the most recent example.
Prince Harry was famously introduced as "just Harry" at a conference shortly after resigning from his royal duties earlier this year.
But even before then, Harry and Meghan Markle made it clear that in public settings they didn't mind being referred to by their first names.
Marie-Chantal makes sure their children 'dress up' when spending time with their grandparents The princess also spoke about "grandparent etiquette," which she says entails making sure your children have dressed nicely and to be mindful of activities that might not translate in the same way to the older generation.
