A lot of women were jealous of Diana, but it is clear that much of it was good-nature and positive vicarious living, but regrettably there are those like Carole who although they have the ability to make something of themselves, but would prefer to have their way paid. All women like being taken care of and pampered, but Carole and others like her are completely psychopathic about it. I do think that Carole was one of those resentful types that resented working/making a living and likely saw how her life might have run kind of parallel to Diana's. Diana grew up on an amazing aristocratic estate and was waiting on hand and foot and was the cherished daughter of a prominent man and wealthy, indulgent mother. Meanwhile, Carole was being raised by a forceful, domineering mother from a hard side of the tracks and a father who was hardworking, but not at all prominent and might have ironically been content with that. I also think that Carole, in her culture, was probably highly conscious of social distinctions, but decided to be bitter and alienated about it. Then while Diana was partying in Central London, Carole was starting to make her way in the world and likely disliked waiting on the wealthy classes in first class and sincerely resented being at the beck and call of people who were also condescending her as well and I imagine she loathed that as well. Then Diana becomes a public figure and she's everything that Carole always wanted to be, but NEVER had a shot at. And then she ends up being in the audience of Diana's life and throughout those years, Diana is the international star while she, Carole, is 'stuck' continuing to work and is just another anonymous face in the crowd and just another staffer in the airline industry. Diana gets married at Westminster while Carole got married in a parish church. Diana marries a prince and Carole ends up marrying a flight dispatcher. Diana wears couture and Carole wears store bought. Diana flies in private jets and Carole flies economy, if that. What is worse, is that she (Carole) lets it get under her skin. I sometimes wonder if whether or not Carole really comprehends the fact that the comparisons were one sided on the side of Carole, not the side of Diana. Diana never even knew that Carole existed and it is clear to me that she (Carole) might have had things she wanted to promote, but couldn't since she didn't have the time (due to work obligations) or the platform that Diana did (few did). Carole did not know how to recognize that there was nothing entirely fair, but it wasn't a lack of cosmic justice. Diana had her own troubles and a nineteen year old marrying at that age is making a sacrifice. I also think Carole let class issues control her thinking and it ruined her chance of raising her kids decently.
Diana did promote the ideal of the delicate flower who needed to be protected from the big bad world, but it is a passing era and Carole refuses to accept that she could have embraced being a working woman and raised her daughters to be the same. I also think that she (Carole) refuses to face that if she had ridden the feminist wave, big time, she would have ended up making herself into an amazing example for women everywhere and garnered positive attention. I also think that with that ambition, channeled right, she would be where she wanted to be a long time ago and she would have it in her own right.

topof. It was DIANA who disrespected the Queen publicly and in private. The deceitful tv interview, turning up late after HM, etc etc etc. Diana insulted the wives and families of the many married men she had affairs with didnt care a fig who she hurt. You need to get your facts right.

I never said that Diana hadn't done all of that.
I sometimes wonder if Diana was sometimes aware of the void she was leaving by her behavior. If Diana had not messed around I am certain that she would have ended up preventing her sons from being so derailed. Neither Kate or Meg would have had a shot if Diana had chosen to live her life differently.

Aside: I will leave this item in this thread so if people want to continue to believe the fiction of William being his mother's protector, etc, then then certainly can.
But, read all the comments above first.

I often think that a lot of people do not understand or are willing to be open minded about how a lot of upper class parents raise their kids.
Charles and Diana were 'not there' like 9--5 parents, but they made sure that their kids were well cared for; best of everything and sometimes a parent's love isn't enough if the kids are underfed, bad dirty clothes, and no safety.
Upper class parents are 'not there' all the time physically, but mess with their kids and their inner feral comes out. The biggest loathing I have of royalty is that they refuse to see the good in their lives. Parents of upper class kids work like fiends to make sure that the lives of their kids are privileged, safe, stable, and secure. mess with those kids and the parents hire 'specialists' to deal with the predators.
Royals refuse to see the good in their lives. They do not see 'normal' lives as having struggles, they think it's all carefree and simple and no problems at all. They think that middle class life is a balanced life of simple little luxuries and a simple straightforward routine and simple/straightforward work day where the boss isn't screaming or the traffic isn't bad and the budget always fits the expenses involving the needs.
Neither William or even Harry see how middle class types are drilled in advancement, how a lot of verbal and emotional abuse exists in the pursuit of more status, and how middle class kids are cruel to those that they perceive that are 'lesser' than they themselves are. William and Harry and almost all modern royals are too stupid to see what is underneath or do their research to find out if whether or not the person is who they are showing themselves is faking it.

They will never experience the day to day grind, WITHOUT A SAFETY NET, which they have always had. It's very easy to play middle-class "house", isn't it? Every parent on the planet makes mistakes, which most will readily attest to. Nobody should be pointing any fingers, really.

One thing I do know is that I am critical of Diana, but she had real struggles as well. Carole had the ability to really see the world minus the pressures of the spotlight and it does say a lot that the Cinderellas are resentful of the Stepsisters. Carole disrespecting his mother should have been a real warning sign and it is clear that they are just like Meg Markle in terms of resentment. If I had had the kind of freedom and flexibility of Carole, I would have been spending all my time maxing out any kind of support I could get for making something of myself. Diana was raised up to be a stupid, submissive, ornamental wife who was supposed to put up with domestic dysfunction in exchange for status that was tops, but pressure filled. Carole wasn't and there is nothing wrong with making our way and paying our dues. There is nothing wrong with earning your own way, something that we all do in different ways. There is no place on earth that is dues-free. I do not think there is any kind of possibility of Carole seeing that Diana was paying hard dues and did have it rough.
