It is true. Carole's monarchical ambitions have ruined her children. All three would otherwise be living successful lives and if that drive/ambition had been channeled into careerism, none of them would be national laughingstocks.

James advertises himself like this because he is desperate to be cared about. It is clear that an over year long engagement should show her that she is being used while he trolls for another meal ticket. As for Alizee herself, I think there is something seriously 'off' about her that would explain her engagement to James. I wouldn't want her handling my cash, I know that much.
