She has done a few songs now none of which I am a fan of however she did a cover of Elton John's Your Song (I have always loved the original) which I love. I also think the video is lovely.
Here is the song

I see. Thank you. Kinda sweet. But, from my, perhaps, maturity, it sounds like a child singing. Which is cool, but for me juvenile and her range is short. Elton does it much better, for my money.

Being the composer (with a good partner, Bernie) helps, but this, when you hear this against the little girl voice above. No. And it's Live, not canned.:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTa8U0Wa0q8He was born in 1947, so he's more than a bit older than I, but, despite it all, I love his version more than their choice. Not sure if you guys use headphones or not. It makes a big difference to me.

I agree Yooper, I love Elton John and his version the most.
She has a different take on it and there is an innocence in her portrayal of the song. My Mother said her version sounds like a girl talking about a crush or first love. :AWW:

What I don't understand is if you've got Elton John right there....oh well. It's fine, it's not my wedding, and it does sound like a young girl crush, which is more appropriate than anything. We're not talking about grownups here, yet.
Thanks, MK, because that song has a special place in my heart, and it was Elton. It's impossible sometimes to beat the composer. Hey! That reminds me, why did McCartney bag out. At one point, he was on the invite list. Or not.

Many names have been thrown around including Beyonce and Jay Z.
I don't understand why they have not asked Elton to sing Your Song and instead Ellie.
I actually thought when writing my last post that this innocent song it so wrong for this wedding as theirs is anything but an innocent relationship it has been none stop tawdry sex. But I can see it from you POV with Kate :flirt:
I love the original and I see Ellie's as completely different she has managed to change the song and not just copy. I love it when someone covers a song and makes you see it in a different light and give it another meaning.
But noone compares to Elton kisss

Yeah, I see your point. Nothing innocent about those two, but thanks for getting my point that they're like two children, so far. I haven't seen any really, truly adult behavior from either of them yet.
I, too, appreciate a singer who has the courage to take on a classic and spin it to their style, though. However, this one sounds like it should be on American Idol. What the heck, it's a small piece of a much larger, uglier puzzle. But, man, I had a donor who had Elton John play at their house/reception and it was f'ing fantastic. He played for one hour, it cost $15K, and he gave them the piano as a gift. Uber cool.
I, of course, was busily writing the check to his manager.

Kate sounds like Fergie must have at hte time of her marriage, while William sounds like he is ready to have fun with his position, but this is the WRONG level of fun. At an earlier time he has had so many burdens, but this is the wrong way to go about kicking back.

I agree, KF. But PW is a follower, not a leader, so don't expect too much, from where I sit anyway. He has shown very few signs of any leadership skills and does nothing more than bow to a family that isn't his yet and practically disowned and disparaged his own. That isn't a gentleman or someone to follow in ANY country.

Definately. What a pity. I still can't get over how he referred to Michael as "Dad" at times, when it wasn't Michael that put clothes on his back and then protected him from the media after the brutal death of his mother.

PW did that? He actually called Mike 'Dad'? Oh, my. I suppose it's endearing on some sick level, but how painful for his own father. This will indeed end in tears, from many people.

Yes, Raisie, he does deserve respect. On many levels. I think, sometimes, that PC is probably the most misunderstood man in the whole play. I believe he genuinely cared for Diana and showed it when she was killed. He did his best, but probably should've taken PW to the woodshed a few more times than he did. But, all in all, I don't really see anything but a man who tried his best with what he had. Shame on you, William!

When Kate started attacking Charles in the media and then of course, all those articles on abdicating, that alone should have sent up an alarm in his thick head. What an ingrate of a son and when I compare the two, Charles comes out more than ahead.

William was clearly very close to Kate's father. Every time he spoke to him, William replied, "Yes, Dad".

^ And, none of us took that seriously at the time, when we should have been paying attention. It was only late 2009 on that skiing trip, wasn't it?
Some songs should not be touched, and classics like most of Elton's should never be touched - except by someone of equal stature. Elvis covered many famous songs, and they were IMO always better than the originals, even the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" and Sinatra's "My Way". :worship:
If anyone dares do a cover of "Empty Garden", I'm going to
! :screaming:
KF: Charles is earning my respect more - and I think that might be the twisted plan.
Yooper: I agree with your disparaging assessment of William, but I now think he has just realised he has been played. Honestly, I do think he is still a boy who is lost. Yes, he's an arrogant, pig-headed, spoilt brat, but he can't help being born to be King, nor being surrounded by sycophants and those making all the wrong decisions - or none at all - for him.
