You know, I can't get over how monarchical ambition gets out of hand. Diana could have made a great wife if she had not had her natural development suppressed into complete unnatural subjugation. I honestly believe that HM's adherence to the Victorian ideal led directly to Diana eventually manifesting the disorder. She had issues, due to her family situation ( I speak from DIRECT experience on how that messes up a person), but after she got out she started to reach out more and might have stood a chance IF she had not been hammered into a tiny little hole where she was unable to grow outward. She should have been less burdened with official paperwork at first and should have been able to have her household run according to HER standards, not the standards of a long dead queen. Second, if she had not been allowed to run wild in regards to her mental health treatment, she might have stood an even better chance. If I had been HM, I would have had Diana committed until she stopped making herself sick and then I would have had Camilla 'dealt with' and Charles ordered to live in Wales, not Highgrove. Then after Diana got out I would have put her on a solid education regimen and ordered her to spend at least Monday through Friday doing Prince's Trust office work, not aimlessly drifting or shopping. Then I would have appointed a courtier to make sure that my orders were followed.

Aside: Right, because it's ALL about the look, not the facts, not the REAL story, the research, etc, etc, etc, that makes a character, RIGHT?

Aside: I study royalty, have done so for YEARS. I can write about real royal horror stories - trust me, Diana's doesn't come close to the raw tragedy of certain lives. I will leave it at that.

Diana was adored by the BRF mainly since she was one of their own and had known her since birth. Second, the film "Spencer" looks like another Diana sob-fest and seeing the luxury during these troubled times is frustrating like no other. Poor Diana, 'stuck' going to a huge palatial estate for a few weeks and enjoying haute cuisine, couture gowns, and then ancestral jewels. Then waitstaff making sure she does not chip a nail doing any maintenance and she's busy being all unhappy. The film looks dumb and looks like Diana was being assaulted by the media and she never looked like this in public except on very rare occasions. She was someone who didn't even have to even go to a therapist, the therapist came to her.
This is all she had and we are all supposed to keep feeling sorry for herself:
Sick of it. The only reason HM started hating Diana was when Diana wouldn't stop complaining about and insulting Charles, then she (Diana) decided to blast Charles' reputation to shreds and blow up the previously unquestioned reality of hereditary position/succession. So yes, most MIL's would loathe their DIL after all of that.

Like that is anything new? An angry Prince William? He's been throwing temper tantrums and issuing one threat after another, I wish the media would get a new crop of writers who would stop fixating on William's feelings. William sounds completely tiresome and exhausting, no wonder Kate is withering away. As for Diana's disaffection with royal life, that spoiled brat would not have been so disaffected if she had had the hard knocks before marriage. I also think that if Diana had truly comprehended the realities of poverty and disaffection that she saw on a day to day basis, I rather imagine that she would have been less whining and pathetically grateful that she had all she had. Poor Diana who lives in a palace and has haute cuisine prepared on a constant basis and had her couture placed in dress bags so she wouldn't have to use regular suitcases and had fresh seafood brought in by the chestful.

Not at all; Diana had the same temper and it is clear at least to me that she failed to raise her sons right. I also dislike how Diana wanted them to focus on household chores instead of having them focus on earning an allowance through doing engagements. She also failed to raise William to grow outward instead of inward and I will eternally loathe her for teaching them that 'normal' is swanning around until marriage and burdening a spouse with straightening them out.

Yet she was. She successfully manipulated Charles into marrying her via a media campaign and getting his family on her side and then proceeded after marriage to manipulate the media in making her look like a victim and trashed his reputation beyond repair. Then she messed with the press and ended up dead in a Paris underpass when her own machinations backfired on her. For some reason, she also ended up convincing millions around the world that she had had a hard life.

And this is why neither prince has developed healthily; too many people did not get over Diana and as a result, the princes never developed an identity or life outside of their dead mother and her deranged fans. Neither were allowed to let go and move on and it is clear that neither prince was able to heal properly and move on. There are too many crazy people out there who still think that the princes should take their dead mother's supposed wishes into consideration when the cold hard fact is that Diana is dead and no one can possibly guess that she would want one thing or another for her sons. It's macabre and almost psycho that the princes were pressured to keep living with the dead instead of being out living life.
